FIRST RESORT IN GAAFU DHAALU ATOLL TO INITIATE SEAPLANE CONNECTION WITH GAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
7 January, Maldives – Amari Havodda Maldives, a luxury private island resort located in one of the most pristine atolls in the southern part of the Maldives, recently made history by being the first resort in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll to offer a direct seaplane connection. Up till now, guests to Amari Havodda Maldives and the other nearby resorts arrive and depart via a domestic flight connection between Male International Airport and Kaadhedhoo Domestic Airport, with the remaining part of the journey made through a 10-minute speedboat transfer.
The inaugural seaplane journey took place in early December as part of a familiarization visit by 10 travel industry professionals from the UK, organized in partnership with SriLankan Airlines. Upon departure following a memorable stay in paradise, the members of this familiarisation visit enjoyed the rare opportunity of being part of the inaugural 35-minute seaplane flight directly from Amari Havodda Maldives to Gan International Airport (GAN) specially organised by Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) for Amari Havodda Maldives. This inaugural flight follows the recent announcement by SriLankan Airlines as the first international carrier to service Gan International Airport with four flights a week between Gan Island and Colombo during the recent World Travel Mart (WTM) in London.
“Amari Havodda Maldives offers a location, setting and experience which is unparalleled, and we are extremely delighted to be the first resort to offer this trial seaplane service only weeks after the Sri Lankan Airlines announcement as the only international carrier to service Gan,” said Christoph Leonhard, General Manager, Amari Havodda Maldives.
“Providing seaplane transfers to Gan as a complement to our domestic flight arrangement via
Kaadhedhoo, and offering our guests additional travel options, will be one of our top priorities for next year as we work with the relevant partners on developing a regular seaplane service. No matter where our guests are coming from, they can be assured of a more seamless connection in the near future, which means more time exploring the magic of our island and experiencing true paradise,” he added.
“We had the most amazing opportunity to fly by seaplane from Amari Havodda Maldives to Gan and connect with the new service to Colombo operated by SriLankan Airlines. What an unforgettable experience with scenic views and the best trip yet! It was just perfect and made the travel connections a lot more seamless,” commented one of the passengers on the inaugural flight.
“It was a great moment for Trans Maldivian Airways to fly from the beautiful Amari Havodda Maldives in the southern region of the Maldives, fuel the growth of connectivity and support the development of tourism in this region.” said Mr. A.U.M Fawzy, Chief Executive Officer, Trans Maldivian Airways.
More details on the direct seaplane service between Amari Havodda Maldives and Gan Island will be shared in the near future as the resort work towards establishing the most optimum flight schedules in collaboration with the relevant partners and operators.
