Maldives Welcomes the 1 Millionth Visitor of 2018

The Maldives warmly welcomes the 1 Millionth Visitor of 2018. At a media event held at Velana International Airport this morning, the 1 Millionth Visitor Mr. Koralp Guner, arrived on Turkish Airlines Flight Number TK730 with his wife for their honeymoon was welcomed by Officials of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), together with the Ministry of Tourism and representatives of the Maldives Tourism industry.

Compared to last year’s arrival figures, the Maldives marks its 1 Millionth milestone a month ahead of arrival figures when compared to 2017. The 1 Millionth mark was reached on the 1st of October in the year 2017.

The media event that was held to commemorate the arrival of the 1 Millionth Visitor at Velana International Airport commenced with the stamping of the 1 millionth visitor by the Maldives Immigration. Mr. & Mrs. Guner were escorted with a traditional Maldivian Bodu Beru performance to the VIP lounge where they were welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Hussain Lirar and Acting Managing Director of MMPRC, Mr. Haris Mohamed. Velana International Airport was decorated with a special banner and the couple were awarded with a congratulatory Plaque and special gifts representing traditional Maldivian culture and tourism.

Mr. Koralp Guner, who is an American, and his Turkish wife were awarded with a complimentary holiday package for 5 nights sponsored by Movenpick Resort Kuredhivaru Maldives and the internal transfers were sponsored by Trans Maldivian Airways. Mr. Koralp Guner was also awarded a Dhiraagu Tourist Pack Premium with a special 100GB Data add on.
During this period in 2017, by the end of August, a total of 892, 025 visitors were recorded to have arrived in Maldives. This is an increase of 8.3% in arrival figures based on arrival figures for the same period this year, where a total of 972,832 visitors was recorded to have arrived by the end of August 2018. In the year 2017, more than 1.3 million tourists had visited the Maldives.
