Maldives participates in Marine Diving Fair (MDF) 2017, together with 3 co-exhibitors from the tourism industry. Maldives will be showcased in a 24 square meter area at Stand: C-07. This annual event will be held from 7-9 April 2017 in Tokyo, Japan. The Maldives delegation will be be joined by the Maldives Ambassador to Japan H.E. Mohamed Hussain Shareef.

We also note that social media related activities such as a Photo-Op with complementary prizes are planned to be conducted at the stand to attract more visitors. Additionally, visitors will also be given the chance to have their names written in Dhivehi as well as to witness the underwater beauty of the Maldives through virtual reality (VR Headset).

This year, MDF kicks off with over 200 sellers from 50 countries and an estimated 50,000+ visitors. MDF is Tokyo’s leading marine related fair founded in 1993. MDF will also consist of underwater photography displays, talks, presentations, etc. MDF will be promoted through various promotional channels in Japan which include online, media, newsletters and  the monthly “Marine Diving” magazine which is the first ever dive related magazine released in Japan since 1969 with a sizeable readership.

Japan has traditionally been an important source market for marine and scuba diving related travel to the Maldives. Japan is the 8th largest market for the Maldives in terms of tourist arrivals with a percentage growth of 1.7% at the end of 2016 representing 39,894 visitors. MDF 2017 will be a platform to reach a large number of scuba diving and marine enthusiasts as well as high-value potential buyers and media representatives. Additionally, it is expected, that participation will aid in strengthening the market presence of Maldives in Japan and South East Asia.
